Privacy Policy
Version 1.2
Effective October 12, 2026
Last updated October 12, 2026
The short version
KAI stores your child’s first name and age, the rules you set, the tasks and check-ins you agree on, which apps were used and for how long, the websites the device visited and — if your child allows it — their location. It does not read their messages, scan their camera roll, listen through the microphone, talk to an AI provider, or carry an advertising SDK.
We do not sell, use, or disclose any of it to third parties for any purpose, including advertising, marketing, or analytics. The companies that run our servers, deliver push notifications, and send recovery emails act only on our instructions and see only what that job needs. You can delete any of it, at any time, from inside the app or by writing to team@breakglobalinc.com.
Who we are
Break Global Inc. (“Break Global”, “we”, “us”) is a company incorporated in Delaware, United States. We make KAI — a screen-time app that lets families set fair limits, earn time with tasks, and grow together — without turning a child’s phone into a surveillance device.
This policy covers the KAI apps for iPhone and iPad (KAI for parents, KAI Mini for children), the device management profile and network filter KAI Mini installs on a child’s device, and the website at breakglobalinc.com. It applies to parents and guardians who hold an account, and to the children whose profiles those parents create.
For people in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, Break Global Inc. is the data controller. Our postal address is 8 The Green, Suite B · Dover, DE, 19901-3618 · United States, and our privacy contact is team@breakglobalinc.com.
A KAI account is held by an adult. You must be at least 18 and the parent or legal guardian of any child whose profile you create. Children do not create accounts of their own; a child uses a profile inside an account you control.
What we collect from parents
This is the complete list. Each entry says what we keep, why, how long, and which service providers see it.
Your nameAlways
So your child sees who set a rule, and so a second parent knows who is who in the family.
Your email address or phone numberOnly if you turn it on
Only if you add it under My account. It is how you get your family back on a new phone: we send a one-time code to it. Nothing else is sent to it.
A device keyAlways
KAI has no password. Your phone generates a random key that identifies it; the server keeps only a one-way hash of that key. Nobody at Break Global can read it.
Your household settingsAlways
The rules you set: daily limits, schedules, Interval Time, which apps are Essential, Growth, Noise or Blocked, age ratings, web filters, the family PIN (stored as a hash).
What you tap in the appAlways
Feature-usage events (for example “tapped Block now”) sent to our own server so we can see what is used and debug your problem. No analytics company is involved.
Your sign-up consent: which Privacy Policy and Terms versions you accepted, what you agreed to, the app build, and the timeAlways
So we can show you, and prove to a regulator or to Apple, what you agreed to and when. COPPA asks for it; Apple's device-management capability requires the declaration it records.
KAI has no password and, today, no payments. Your phone holds a random key that identifies it; the server keeps only a one-way hash. If you add an email address or phone number under My account, we use it for one thing: sending you a code so you can get your family back on a new phone.
What we collect about a child
A child’s profile is created by you, from your account, and everything in it stays under your control. We ask for the least we can and still make the product work.
Your child’s first nameAlways
So KAI Mini and your dashboard can address your child. A nickname works. We never ask for a surname.
Your child’s ageAlways
Entered during setup. It picks the default App Store age rating for the device and, until a birthday is added, KAI's stage.
Your child’s birthday (optional)Always
Entered by you, if you choose to. It sets which of KAI’s four looks your child sees and triggers a one-time “KAI grew!” moment on the birthday. Nothing else uses it, and it is never shared.
A KAI characterAlways
Your child picks one of four drawn KAI poses as their avatar. There is no photo upload for avatars.
Tasks, check-ins and rewardsAlways
The tasks you set and whether your child marked them done, the minutes you approved, Brain Training levels passed, the daily check-in (a mood from five KAI faces and one optional line), and the high fives on the family’s Crew board. Visible to the parents in your family only.
Task photosOnly if you turn it on
Only for a task where you switched on “Ask for a photo”: the single picture your child chooses to send as proof. Stored on our server, shown to the parents in your family, replaced by the next photo for that task and deleted with the task.
Which apps are on the device, and how long each was usedAlways
The device’s management profile reports the installed apps. KAI Mini’s network filter estimates minutes per app from the connections it sees. Daily limits, Interval Time and the Essential / Growth / Noise buckets run on this.
Websites visitedAlways
KAI Mini’s network filter records the domains the device visited — not page contents and not what was typed — so you can see them under Web and block categories.
Your child’s locationOnly if you turn it on
Only if your child allows location for KAI Mini during setup. You see it on the Map, can ask for a fresh fix, and can play a loud Super Signal on the device. Deny the permission and nothing is collected.
We ask for a first name or a nickname, and an age — never a surname. A birthday is optional, entered by a parent, and only decides which of KAI’s four looks your child sees. Your child picks a drawn KAI character as an avatar; there is no photo upload for avatars.
Device and technical data
Device model, OS version and app versionAlways
So the dashboard can say which phone is which, and so we can tell whether a bug is an iPad bug or an old-version bug.
An app install identifierAlways
A random ID the app generates for this install, so the right phone gets the right rules. It is not your device’s serial number and it does not follow you to other apps.
Device management enrolment detailsAlways
On a child’s device: the enrolment ID and Apple’s device identifier for management, which restrictions are applied, whether the profile and the KAI Mini app are still installed, and the list of installed apps. This is how a screen-time rule is actually enforced.
IP addressAlways
Seen by every server on the internet. It sits in our server logs for abuse and debugging; we do not use it for anything else.
A push notification tokenAlways
The address Apple uses to deliver a notification to this device.
Task photos, check-ins and the Crew board
Task photos
For a task where you switch on “Ask for a photo”, your child sends one picture as proof — taken with the camera at that moment, or chosen through Apple’s photo picker, which shows KAI Mini only the picture your child selects. The photo travels over TLS to our server, is stored there, and is shown to the parents in your family and to nobody else. The next photo for the same task replaces it; deleting the task deletes it. KAI never reads the rest of the photo library.
Daily check-in
A check-in is a mood picked from five KAI faces and one optional line of text. It is stored with the task, shown to the parents in your family, and counted for the streak. It is not analysed and not shared.
The family Crew board
The Crew board shows the children in your family with their stars, tasks done and check-in streak for the week, and lets family members send one of three fixed reactions. There is no free text between children, no ranking against other families, and nothing on the board leaves your family.
No AI
KAI has no chatbot or AI feature today. Nothing about your child is sent to an AI provider and nothing is used to train a model. If that ever changes we will ask for your consent again first, as described under “Changes to this policy”.
Human review
Break Global staff do not open your child’s task photos or check-ins as a matter of routine. A named engineer may look at a specific item in only three situations: you ask us to, an abuse report about your family has to be judged, or a court order requires it.
Automated decisions
KAI does not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about your child. It enforces the limits you set; it does not score, rank, or profile children.
Why we use it
- To run the thing you signed up for. Pairing your child’s device, enforcing the limits you set, showing you what was used, delivering the notifications you asked for, and running tasks, check-ins and the family Crew board.
- To fit the rules to your child’s age. The age you enter picks the default App Store age rating for the device. We do not build advertising profiles and we do not sort children into behavioural segments.
- To keep accounts safe. Spotting a device key that is not yours, rate-limiting abuse, and telling you when a child’s device removes the management profile.
- To answer you when you write in. If you email us, we look at your family’s data to answer the question. We do not open a child’s task photos or check-ins unless you specifically ask us to.
- To fix what is broken. Feature-usage counts from the apps and our own server logs — how many families use a feature, not a child’s content. No crash-reporting or analytics company is involved.
- To meet a legal obligation. Responding to a valid legal request.
If you are in the EEA or the UK: we rely on performance of a contract for the first purpose, our legitimate interests for security, support, and fixing what is broken, your consent for anything marked optional above, and legal obligation for tax and lawful requests. Where we rely on consent you can withdraw it at any time without affecting the rest of the service.
Managed devices
To enforce a screen-time limit on iPhone or iPad, KAI Mini installs a device management profile on the child’s device, with your consent, using Apple’s MDM framework, and a network filter that runs on the device itself. You install them during setup; they can be removed from Settings, and you are told when that happens.
What the profile can do
- Apply the restrictions you configured — blocked apps, through the App Store age rating with the exemptions you choose, and Apple’s web content filter.
- Report which apps are installed: each app’s name, bundle identifier and version, and whether KAI Mini is managed.
- Report the device model, OS version, Apple’s device identifier (UDID), which of our profiles are installed, and the result of each management command we send.
- Install KAI Mini as a managed app so it cannot be deleted while the profile is on.
- Through the network filter: estimate minutes per app and record the domains visited.
What the profile cannot do
- It cannot read messages, email, or the contents of any app or web page.
- It cannot see photographs or contacts.
- It cannot turn on the camera or the microphone.
- It cannot read anything typed on the device.
- It cannot track the device’s location — that is a separate permission your child grants to KAI Mini, or not.
Removing the profile removes our ability to enforce limits and to see app usage. The profile is visible to your child in Settings under VPN & Device Management; nothing about it is hidden. Every prompt the device shows during setup, and the steps to remove the profile, are on our setup help page.
Who else touches it
These are the companies that process information on our behalf. Each is bound by a written data processing agreement, may only use the data to provide their service to us, and may not use it for their own purposes.
Amazon Web Services
Runs KAI’s servers. Everything in this policy, on servers that only Break Global operates
Apple
Delivers notifications to iPhone and iPad, carries device-management pushes, and supplies App Store app names and icons. Push tokens and notification text; the managed device’s management push token; the identifiers of apps whose icon we look up
Resend
Delivers the account-recovery code email, and carries the website’s early-access and data-request forms to our inbox. The email address you added or typed, the code, and the text of a form you sent
Vercel
Serves this website. IP address and request metadata for pages on breakglobalinc.com
We will also disclose information if the law requires it — a valid subpoena, court order, or an emergency involving a risk of serious harm. Where we are allowed to tell you, we will. If Break Global is ever acquired, your information may transfer to the buyer, who would be bound by this policy until you are given notice and a chance to delete.
Children’s privacy and COPPA
KAI is designed for families with children aged 4–17. It is not a general-audience social product and it is not directed at children independently of a parent.
How consent works
Only an adult sets up KAI. A child’s device joins your family only through a pairing code that you generate on your own phone and enter, or scan, on the child’s device — and the management profile is installed by hand on that device during the same setup. Before your account exists, the app shows you what KAI collects and why, and asks for three separate confirmations: that you are 18 or older and the parent or legal guardian, that you accept the Terms, and that you allow KAI to process your child’s information for the features you turn on. We keep that record, with its date and the text you agreed to. The parent-performed pairing is our second record of your consent.
What a parent can do
- See everything stored about their child, from inside the app.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Delete a task and its photo, a check-in, or the whole child, at any time.
- Withdraw consent — which deletes the child’s data and ends collection. See Delete your data.
We do not condition a child’s participation on disclosing more information than is reasonably necessary. We show no advertising to children, run no third-party analytics inside a child profile, and never use a child’s data for behavioural advertising or to build a marketing profile.
If you believe a child’s information reached us without a parent’s consent, write to team@breakglobalinc.com and we will delete it.
What we never do
These are commitments, not settings. There is nothing to switch off because the code to do them is not in the app.
The contents of your child’s messagesNever collected
We do not read texts, DMs, or chats in other apps. Not scanned, not summarised, not stored.
Your child’s contactsNever collected
KAI never asks for the address book on either device.
Scanning the camera rollNever collected
KAI never reads your child’s photo library. When a task asks for a photo, your child picks a single picture through Apple’s photo picker or takes one; only that picture is sent.
Microphone audioNever collected
The apps request no microphone permission.
Turning on the camera by itselfNever collected
The camera opens only when your child taps to take a task photo or to scan the pairing code, and only for that moment.
Keystrokes, screen recording, page contentsNever collected
No keylogger, no screen recording, no reading of what is on the screen. Web activity is limited to the list of domains visited, which you see under Web.
Sending your family’s data to an AI providerNever collected
KAI has no chatbot or AI feature today. Nothing about your child is sent to an AI company or used to train a model.
An advertising identifierNever collected
KAI ships with no advertising SDK, so there is no IDFA and no App Tracking Transparency prompt.
Face or voice biometricsNever collected
The parent PIN is a number you choose. We never receive a faceprint or a voiceprint.
We have never sold personal information, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, as those terms are used in the California Consumer Privacy Act. We do not run advertising of any kind inside KAI.
How long we keep it
- Your family and its settings. Until you delete the family.
- A child. Until you remove them; removal deletes their data at once.
- Tasks, check-ins, rewards and Crew reactions. Until the task is deleted or the child is removed.
- Task photos. Until the next photo for that task, or until the task is deleted.
- App usage records. Thirteen months, then deleted.
- Websites visited. Ninety days, then deleted.
- Location history. Thirty days, then deleted.
- Feature-usage events. Ninety days.
- Server logs. Thirty days.
- Backups. Encrypted, nightly, deleted after 30 days.
When you delete the family, or remove a child or a device, the data goes from live systems immediately. Encrypted backups age out within 30 days and are never restored to bring deleted data back.
How we protect it
- Everything in transit is encrypted with TLS 1.2 or better.
- Backups are stored encrypted at rest; task photos are readable only through an authenticated request from a device in your family.
- There are no passwords to leak: device keys and the family PIN are stored as one-way hashes.
- Access to production data is limited to named staff who need it, over key-based SSH, and logged.
- Every service provider is under a written agreement with security obligations at least as strict as ours.
No system is perfect. If a breach affects your information we will tell you and the relevant regulator without undue delay, and within 72 hours where the law requires it. We will say what happened, what was affected, and what to do.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- See what we hold about you and your child.
- Correct anything wrong.
- Delete the family, a child, a device, a task and its photo, or a check-in.
- Ask for a copy of your data in a machine-readable file.
- Withdraw a consent you gave.
- Object to processing based on our legitimate interests.
- Complain to us, and to your data protection authority.
Most of this is a button in the app. For anything else, write to team@breakglobalinc.com or use the deletion request page. We answer within 30 days, free of charge, and we will never make the service worse because you exercised a right.
California residents have these rights under the CCPA as amended, including the right not to be discriminated against for using them. EEA and UK residents have them under the GDPR and may complain to their supervisory authority.
Website, cookies and the early-access list
The KAI apps contain no advertising SDK, no third-party tracker, and no advertising identifier. There is no App Tracking Transparency prompt because there is nothing to ask you about.
The website breakglobalinc.com sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising scripts. The only trace of a visit is the ordinary server log our host keeps for security, for a short time.
If you join the early-access list on the home page, the address you type is sent to our inbox as an email (delivered by Resend) and nothing is stored on the website. We use it for one thing: telling you once when KAI is available. Write to team@breakglobalinc.com and we remove it.
Where your data lives
Your information is stored on servers in the United States. Our service providers listed above may process it in the United States or, for global content delivery and push notifications, at edge locations in other countries.
If you are in the EEA or the UK, transfers out of your region rely on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, together with the UK Addendum where applicable. Ask us at team@breakglobalinc.com and we will send a copy of the safeguards for a specific transfer.
Changes to this policy
When we change something material — new data, a new purpose, a new provider — we will show a notice in the app at least 30 days before it takes effect, and email the account holders who gave us an address. If the change expands what we collect from a child, we will ask for your consent again rather than assume it.
Smaller edits, like clearer wording, get a new date at the top of this page. Every version stays available; ask us and we will send you any earlier one.
